August 25, 2014:  Kiwanis Club of Chester was privileged to have Tim Joyce (TJ), the CEO and President of the Greater Richmond Area YMCA, as our guest speaker. TJ is obviously passionate and energized about the YMCA mission.  He updated us on the Y's Strategic Plans with Youth Development, Leadership Opportunities, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.  As Chester Kiwanis Club President, Noelle Grosso said,

21-24 - 2014 District Convention - Reston, VA. I have attached the information email for your review. Please consider going. I would love to have a nice representation from our Club. Free registration for the Convention before July 24th. We will probably have a carpool early Saturday morning to attend Saturday workshops.

The always passionate and dedicated volunteer Betty Mathews updated the Club on the Chesterfield Center for the Arts building project.  They are in the final 40 days of collecting donations to hopefully match funds.  (See full page status of funding in The Village News' July 16th edition.) We presented a check for $800, the first of five, in fulfillment of our $4000 pledge.  Betty stressed that individual donations can be made through this link:  http://www.artschesterfieldva.org/. 26:  Chester Kiwanis:  *1st Summer Social - Tom Sokol and Donnie Newton are treating us to a fun night on Lake Chesdin Thursday, June 26th. April 21, 2014:  Our guest speaker was Rob Rhodes, a volunteer and docent at Pamplin Park.  Bob reviewed all the incredibly educational programs and facilities at Pamplin Park.   With four museums, including the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier to the, and the Breakthrough campaign trail, there is something for all ages!

31:  Chester Kiwanis:  Meeting, Program:  Jeff Schapero, columnist for the Richmond Times Dispatch. The title of his presentation will be, "A New Year, A New Governor"


March 31, 2014: We were honored to have Richmond Times Dispatch's Political Analysis Jeff Shapiro speak to the membership about "A New Year, A New Governor". Jeff shared his insights with the membership who in turn shared some of Sibley's wonderful ribs with him. Both parties were justly rewarded.

March 10, 2014: Our guest speaker was Jack Pearsall who presented "Resaving The Richmond Canals". Jack is an attorney by profession and a member of an organization which would like to save the current canals and eventually extend the canals to make them operational again similar to their existence in the 1800's. Jack went into depth on the history and function of the canals and showed a plan where a new canal system could draw attention as a tourist center in Richmond.

February 24, 2014: George Fickett presented a fascinating review on the Points of Rock Park & Dodd Park at Points of Rock role in the Civil War. One interesting fact was that Points of Rock was the location of a massive Union hospital during the Civil War where Clara Barton served. February 17, 2014: Our President's Day program speaker President Abraham Lincoln (alias - Tom Scott) shared with us Lincoln's "provisions" for his journey in life and politics and how they related to each of us. February 10, 2014:  The Honorable Edward A. Robbins Jr. Presiding Judge for the Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Ed was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Chester.

Judge Robbins, a is a dynamic and informative speaker and covered everything from the state to the local judicial system along with duties and responsibilities in his Court.
