Photo: November 13, 2013: Kiwanis Club of Chester President Noelle Grosso filled in as speaker for the Thomas Dale High School Key Club this evening.  Her subject was leadership, calling on her 10 years of service as an officer in the US Army.  She related leadership principles passed down to her by her father as he was preparing to retire from the Army after 27 years of service.  Noelle selected eight principles from his letter that she found important in guiding her actions as a leader during her service and especially while commanding her company over a 28 month period.  Her remarks were well received and prompted many questions.<br />

They will be distributing Meal Gift Packages to Registered Families on November 23rd from 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. The gift packages contains a $15 gift certificate for the turkey and a bag which contains all the trimmings. Club President Noelle Grosso presented Sharon with a check for $500.00.

September 16, 2013, Shepard's Center of Chesterfield's Senior Idol 2013 Winner Tony Zevgolis sings an Elvis Presley hit song for our club. The Shepherd's Center of Chesterfield is a non-profit, interfaith organization of senior adults who donate their time, talents, professional expertise, automobiles, gasoline, and other resources to help other senior adults remain independent in their own homes. It was established in August 2001 with the mission to enrich the lives of adults 50 and better by offering volunteer opportunities for community service and lifelong learning and to help them remain active and independent. Participants in the programs realize they are needed and valued and that they can continue to live lives that truly matter throughout their later years.

July 29, 2013:  The guest speaker was Todd Wilson, chairman and president of the Cornerstone Revitalization Center. Todd described the support for children provided at the Shady Hill Trailer Park off of Jeff Davis Highway between 288 and Chippenham. The organization provides block parties each month serving hot dogs and refreshments and has an afterschool program and provided 130 backpacks to children last year. June 17, 2013: Club President Tom Sokol was welcomed back from his recent trip to Europe. Tom wanted to remind members that next week's meeting will be a social event at Dr. Joe Hillier's residence. Also, the club welcomed Duane Wittman who turned in a new member application.

Lee Army Band Concert on Village Green is Thursday week, June 13.concert begins at 7pm but Kiwanians requested to come early at 6:15pm to meet and greet our Army band contingent as well as those coming to hear them.  EVENT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO in climate weather.

March 25, 2013: Tonight's program was about Head Start under Chesterfield County Public Schools. Our speakers were David Williams, Head Start Director-Instructional Specialist, Randi Burnett, Education Manager and Linda Wood, Director of Elementary Education.

March 4, 2013. The Kiwanis Club of Chester was pleased that Thomas Dale High School Key Club officers Matt and Lisa attended our meeting with Key Club chair Marshall Henry.

February 25, 2013: Our guest speaker was James J. L. Stegmaier Chesterfield County Administrator. Prior to being selected by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors in July 2007, he had served as Deputy County Administrator for Management Services since 1997, and was previously director of the county’s Budget and Management Department from 1986 until that time. He earned his baccalaureate degree from the Catholic University of America in 1976 with scholarships in Engineering and Psychology.

He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Virginia with a Public Service Education Program fellowship. He also attended the Government Finance Officers Association Executive Finance Institute at Georgetown University; Leadership Metro Richmond; and the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia.

Stegmaier is a Credentialed Manager with the International City/County Management Association and is a member of the American Society for Public Administration, among other professional affiliations.

Mr. Stegmaier also serves on the St. Francis Medical Center Advisory Board, and on the boards of the Metro Richmond Convention Center, the Virginia Institute of Government, Leadership Metro Richmond, The First Tee Richmond and Chesterfield, Appomattox River Water Authority and South Central Wastewater Authority. Stegmaier and his wife, Margot, have three children who attended Chesterfield County schools.

18: Chester Kiwanis: Meeting, Program: Larry Belcher - Spirit of Baseball

February 18, 2013: Guest speaker Larry Belcher was instrumental in the successful implementation of a program in the Norfolk area called "Spirit of Baseball". The premise that kids playing baseball instead of doing bad things, learning teamwork instead of gangwork, and receiving mentoring from coaches provides them with a better chance in life. L arry has been running the Spirit of Baseball program ino Richmond and has partnered with several organizations to donate caps, shirts, mitts, baseballs and bats. 11: Chester Kiwanis: Meeting, Program: Laura Leporati - Fairy GodMother project.  We had a wonderful presentation from Laura Laporati from the Ferry godmother project. This group helps families who have a child with pediatric cancer. Their group gives us a chance to do some volunteer work that would assist this charity. I observed Dr. Cole getting contact information. Perhaps we can help such a family in the future.
